What is Fair Trade?

Fair trade improves families and communities by offering better wages, decent working conditions, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

Dunia is a beautiful word describing "world " and "life" in multiple world languages. An appropriate description of our non-profit fair trade store, as each purchase creates a world of opportunity!

Mark your calendar for our 2012 upcoming Annual Oriental Rug Event May 10th -13th featuring over 300 hand-knotted rugs all made by fairly paid adults, from 2'x3's to 10'x14's. Since our store is not large enough to carry these rugs year round, we host this special event once a year to bring these high-quality, fairly traded, hand-knotted rugs to our community from the Rug Room in Pennsylvania.

On behalf of Dunia Marketplace and the Oriental Rug Room at Ten Thousand Villages in Ephrata, PA, and the 850 artisan families that we work with in Pakistan, we would like to thank the Boise community for yet again a wonderful Fair Trade Oriental Rug Event held at the Hyde Park Mennonite Fellowship and hosted by Dunia Marketplace 1609 North 13th Street in Boise. Each year this event helps to provide employment to artisans in Pakistan, paying a living wage for these handknotted Oriental carpets. This year each rug sold provided a job for an artisan family rebuilding their life after the 2010 flooding disaster. The Boise community is not only supportive in their purchases of these pieces all crafted by fairly paid adults but also in their willingness to help promote this special event. We thank the local businesses and individuals that have helped to promote this event by hosting brochures and posters. Thank you for this kind reception and for supporting fair trade and making a difference in the world!
